Update on Dad's Condition

Below is a copy of the email that I sent out from Dad's email account this morning.

--------------------------------

Good Morning, I have sent this note from Dad's email account to his entire address book so that everybody is updated on his condition, all at once. This email is going out to several dozens of recipients, so please pardon me if it sounds a bit impersonal.

Dad had a pretty bad fall yesterday morning in Rainsville. Around noon, he was taken to the hospital in Ft Payne. His right knee and lower thigh was extremely swollen and in severe pain. An x-ray revealed no fractures, but we were told that a fracture could not show up for up to a week because of the swelling. Even though he could not put weight on his leg and was in a lot of pain, the doctor had to send him home, due to Medicare rules. We arranged to have an ambulance bring him home and he was in his recliner around 6:00 PM yesterday evening.

Around 10:30 PM, with the help of a walker with wheels, Dad made a trip to the back of the house. I was amazed that he could make that short walk. I think it was pure determination, more than anything else. While back there, he got very dizzy and almost fell. After about 10 minutes, he regained composure and I sat him on the walker with the intentions of getting him to his bed or chair to rest. After just a few feet, Dad experienced an "event". I am using the word "event" because I really don't know what else to call it. This event consisted of multiple physical symptoms that alarmed us to the point that we called an ambulance. Allow me to say only that Dad was somewhat unresponsive. The medics took him to Marshall Medical Center in Boaz where he spent the next several hours undergoing tests. When Dad arrived at the ER he had regained much of his responsiveness and was very alert about what was going on. Within the next hour, he was cracking jokes with his nurses. Imagine that !!! There was a particular test result that has us concerned and we are arranging appointments with his family doctor and a neurologist as soon as possible.

Dad has rested fairly well since returning home just after 4:00 AM this morning. Mom has been very active since the early hours of this morning. She has visited one of his local doctors to discuss next steps and is back home now and on the phone with other physicians...just taking care of some business that needs to be handled. The last 24 hours has been extremely stressful on both of them and they have a very heavy few days in the immediate future. I am confident that Dad will be OK and make a full recovery. I look for him to be back in the pulpit at Kelly's Chapel as soon as possible. For this to happen as smoothly as possible, I am asking that everyone refrain from calling Mom & Dad's residence at this time. Please contact me via email for updates instead of calling Mom & Dad's residence. You can reach me via email at timlett@aol.com and you can check my blog online at www.TimLett.com - I will be posting this message and subsequent updates online until we are back to normal. I will also post this message on Dad's Facebook page. If you are on Facebook, feel free to send Dad a friend request and I will take care of that.

If you wish to send a card or letter, please feel free. Their mailing address is

In the meantime, please be in prayer for complete healing for Dad and strength for Mom. Also, please feel free to forward this to your contacts that might want to know about Dad's condition. Some of you might receive this twice as I will be sending it out from my own email account in a few minutes.

Again, please direct all contact to me at timlett@aol.com or by checking my blog at www.timlett.com.

Thank You,
Tim Lett
